Learn to SLOW DOWN for weight loss!

Are you DOING EVERYTHING to LOSE WEIGHT and GETTING NO WHERE??


This is the story for SOOO many clients that come my way! They are literally EXHAUSTED from endless responsibilities and crushing chronic stress. TOO MUCH STRESS is often WHY you are NOT getting the results you desire!



Here are some of the important take aways my SWAT TEAM members learned during our SELF-CARE CHALLENGE:


First of all, RECOGNIZE WHAT's CAUSING THE STRESS...


MAJOR stressors include:

-work, deadlines, and job insecurity

-financial instability and unexpected expenses

-health issues like new or chronic illness and injury

-caregiving responsibilities for children, sick, or elderly family members

-anxiety, depression, or other psychological illness

-marital, relationship, and/or family conflict

-major life changes like birth, death, or relocation

-academic assignments and expectations

-environmental stress including noise, pollution, crowded living, and natural disasters

-social stressors like bullying, harassment, or isolation


Don’t discount the MINOR STRESS of daily hassles :

-a daily commute in traffic

-daily household chores like meal prep, cleaning, yard work, repairs, maintenance

-managing the family schedules

-dealing with chronic pain


Then there are the things we don't even consider STRESSFUL that are stressing us:

-watching violence on TV and in the news

-living in a cluttered space

-too much EXERCISE

-constantly responding to the addictive notifications on your phone


And don’t forget the biggest stressor of all: sleep deprivation!



Once you identify what and/or who is STRESSING you out, the NEXT STEP is to learn to MANAGE THE STRESS!


We can't completely erase stress, but WE CAN do things toLESSON THE BURDEN and CREATE PEACE to counteract the stress in our lives!


It’s important to SLOW DOWN and take CARE of your body in small ways DAILY!! You can do this in minutes without even moving (see the links below).


As often as possible, work to increase the time, attention, and magnitude of your self-care efforts! Reach out to your friends for this... call on the friend that is BETTER at self-care than you!


Stress reduction is crucial for weight loss!


CHRONIC STRESS:

  1. increases cortisol levels, a hormone that promotes fat storage, particularly in the abdominal area

  2. increases insulin resistance which leads to weight gain

  3. increases emotional eating

  4. disrupts sleep

  5. increases fatigue leading to less physical activity



Learning to actively and passively manage stress balances the hormones that lead to easier weight loss and encourages healthier habits.


Here are some of the EXPERT links I shared with our team to help them better MANAGE STRESS:

(1) Tapping, or EFT, for calming down and refocusing


(2) Controlled breathing to reduce anxiety and panic
