Understanding Metabolism
The Engine of Your Health
What is Metabolism?
Healthy Metabolism= Healthy You
Metabolism describes how your body gets energy and uses it. To have a healthy metabolism, you need two things: the right fuel from food and drink and the ability to use that fuel properly.
Over time, poor fueling can break down the very processes that help you convert even the best fuel into usable energy. Too much sugar in the diet overwhelms this system, causing your cells to stop using the fuel you eat properly.
First symptom of broken metabolism: lack of energy!
Early Signs of Poor Metabolism
Your Body Isn’t Aging — It’s Signaling
Early breakdown in your metabolism begins with low energy that begins showing up more and more. As metabolism worsens, the body begins to show small problems we often label as irritation or inflammation. These are the everyday issues most people think are “normal aging,” when in fact they are early signs that your metabolism is struggling.
You may notice inflammation showing up as:
-
Brain: fatigue, brain fog, trouble focusing, migraine
-
Joints: arthritis, stiffness, chronic aches
-
Skin: acne, rosacea, eczema
-
Gums/Mouth: bleeding gums. cavities
-
Gut: reflux, heartburn, bloating, irritable bowel (colitis)
-
Airway/Immune System: allergies, asthma
-
General: chronic pain, low motivation, moodiness
These symptoms are not random — they are signals that your body is not processing fuel properly.
The good news? Metabolism can be repaired. And these early symptoms are often the very first things to improve when you begin fixing it.

Metabolic Syndrome
The Accumulating Risk Factors for Disease
Metabolic syndrome is what happens when early metabolic problems begin to add up. When one appears, the others are often not far behind — and the more of these you accumulate, the closer you move toward developing serious disease.
The Five Markers of Metabolic Syndrome:
-
Insulin resistance or rising blood sugar (pre-diabetes)
-
High blood pressure
-
Low HDL (the good cholesterol)
-
High triglycerides (the bad cholesterol)
-
Increased waist circumference indicating visceral fat (this is the fat that is HARD TO LOSE and is choking off your organs!)
Metabolic Disease
The Link We Aren’t Taught About
Chronic metabolic dysfunction doesn't just fix itself. . Over time, small problems lead to the risk factors that lead directly to the diseases we fear most. Poor metabolic health is the foundation that allows these conditions to develop.
Diseases Driven by Poor Metabolic Health
-
Heart disease
-
Stroke
-
Cancer
-
Alzheimer’s & dementia
-
Fatty liver disease
-
Autoimmune disorders
-
PCOS and infertility
-
Chronic kidney disease
-
Mood disorders (anxiety, depression)
-
And more
